Web Categories
Web Categories are used to allow or block access to websites in the Web Categories policy stage. Web Categories are dynamically updated by Forcepoint.
Forcepoint maintains a comprehensive database of website categories, using proprietary classification software and human inspection techniques, to provide real-time protection against targeted and advanced threats such as phishing, malware, and botnet attacks.
Categories are organized into the following types.
- Security: websites that pose a security risk such as malware, compromised websites, and phishing sites. This category is blocked by default.
- Reputation: websites that pose risks to reputation, such as potentially unwanted software, suspicious content, and uncategorized websites.
- Legal Liability: websites that may have compliance implications or age-related content.
- Bandwidth: websites that may have high traffic requirements, such as streaming, downloads, or file sharing.
- Baseline: general websites used for information, collaboration, and communication. Includes sub-categories such as education, news and media, and information technology. This category is allowed by default.
Each category has a number of sub-categories, each of which can be configured with a different action.
Note: Categories are designed to create useful groupings of websites for classification, reporting, and policy enforcement. The labels attached to categories are not intended to convey, nor should
they be construed as conveying, any opinion or attitude, approving or otherwise, toward the subject matter or the sites they classify.
