Set Web Category actions

Web Category actions define how requests to web resources are treated.

To define the default action for a Web Category:

Steps

  1. Select the top-level web category in the list, or expand the top-level category to locate a specific sub-category.
  2. In the Action column, set the action to apply to web requests for URLs that match this category/sub-category. Available actions are:
    • Allow and bypass: permits the request and bypasses further policy processing stages. Traffic is not decrypted.
    • Block: the request is not permitted. A block notification page is displayed to the user. No further policy processing is performed.
    • Continue inspection: permits the request and applies all further policy processing stages. The request may subsequently be blocked by Threat Inspection or File Filtering rules.
Note: for sub-categories, the Default action is the action applied to the parent category. Changing the action to an explicit value that differs from the default action will create an override for the sub-category. Sub-category override settings keep their value if the parent category action is changed.
  3. If the action is Continue inspection, set the TLS inspection setting to define whether secure traffic that matches this rule is decrypted for inspection:
    • Do not decrypt: secure (HTTPS) traffic will not be decrypted. This traffic cannot be inspected.
    • Decrypt: secure traffic will be decrypted for inspection. Decrypted traffic is re-encrypted before being routed to the Internet.
    • Default: the TLS inspection setting is inherited from the Default TLS inspection setting for the policy
