Endpoint and Remote Filtering Client Tips for version 7.6 : Deploying Remote Filtering Client and Data Endpoint
|
Deploying Remote Filtering Client and Data Endpoint
To deploy Data Endpoint and Remote Filtering Client on a single machine for version 7.6, first ensure that any previous versions of Data Endpoint and Remote Filtering Client have been uninstalled, then follow the instructions below to create a joint deployment package.
1. Use the Data Endpoint Builder (DataEndpointBuilder.exe) to create a new version 7.6 Data Endpoint package. The Data Endpoint Builder is located in the %DSS Home% directory (by default C:\Program Files\Websense\Data Security).Once the package builder has finished, the package will be created on the path that you specified. The contents of the package will be similar to the one below.
2. Use RFClient_Config.exe to create an installation profile and save your customized installation package. For more information, see "Customizing the client installation package" in the Remote Filtering Software technical paper, available from the Websense Knowledge Base.Once you have completed this process, you will have a Remote Filtering Client package similar to the one below.
3. You must verify that the install packages are compatible. To do this, go to the folder where the Data Endpoint installation package is located, and double click setup.ini. The file opens in Notepad:
4. Go to the folder where the Remote Filtering Client installation files are located, and open setup.ini in the same way.
5. Compare the ProductCode in the [Startup] section of the two setup.ini files:
6. The two setup.ini files must contain the same product code for the two install packages to be combined. If the product codes are not the same, note the ProductVersion number in each setup.ini file, and contact your Sales representative or Websense Support with this information to obtain compatible endpoint packages.
7. Create a new folder and copy all the files from the Data Endpoint installation package to the new folder.
8. Copy the files RF.cab, RFClientConfig.hsw, and RFClientMessage.hsw from the Remote Filtering Client installation package folder to the new folder. The new folder will look similar to this:
9. You can now deploy the installation package in this folder using your preferred distribution method.
Before deployment, ensure the Remote Filtering Server to which the Remote Filtering Clients will connect has been correctly installed on a separate machine.
