Migrating TRITON - Web Security from or to an appliance : Moving from an appliance to software

Applies To:
Websense Web Filter, Web Security, Web Security Gateway, and Web Security Gateway Anywhere
Typically, the on-appliance TRITON console is used for initial testing, when a limited amount of filtering and reporting is carried out for a constrained number of clients.
When you are ready to bring your Websense software into broader use, as a best practice, the TRITON console is moved to a Windows 2008 R2 64-bit server in your network. You can migrate the TRITON Settings already configured on the appliance onto the new TRITON Management Server to avoid having to re-enter existing information.
1.
Disable TRITON - Web Security on the appliance:
a.
Log on to Appliance Manager. You may want to do this from the machine that will host the TRITON console to simplify transfer of backup files.
b.
Navigate to the Configuration > Web Security Components page.
c.
Under TRITON - Web Security, click the Disabled radio button, and then click Save.
3.
Save the backup file (EIP_bak.tgz) in a convenient location. The file will be used to restore your settings once you have completed TRITON installation.
Be sure to select TRITON Unified Security Center as the Installation Type, and select all modules that you want installed on this Management Server.
1.
Use a utility like 7-Zip to extract and unpack the contents of the appliance TRITON backup file to a temporary directory on the new TRITON Windows 2008 R2 64-bit machine.
When the process is complete, you should have a directory called EIP_bak that contains, among other files, EIP.db and httpd-data.txt, as well as apache and tomcat folders.
2.
Use the Windows Services dialog box (Start > Administrative Tools > Services) to stop the following services:
*
Websense TRITON - Web Security
3.
Open the Windows Control Panel and select Programs and Features. (Depending on your setup, you may need first to select Programs to see the Programs and Features option.)
4.
Select Websense TRITON Infrastructure, and then click Uninstall/Change.
5.
When prompted, select Modify, then click Next until you reach the Restore Data from Backup screen.
6.
Mark the Use backup data box and browse to the backup folder location, then click Next until the restore process begins.
Note
If you receive a pop-up message stating that the selected backup file "is from the same release but from a different build," click Yes to continue the restore process.
7.
Click Finish to complete the restore wizard.
8.
Use the Windows Services dialog box to verify that the Websense TRITON services have restarted. If any are stopped, right-click the service and select Start.
