Creating a Data Source Name (DSN) in Windows

When you are creating a database table fingerprint or setting up database discovery, you are prompted for DSN name. This is an ODBC term that refers to the name of the database to which you're connecting. If you have not already done so, you can create a DSN for your data source as follows:
1.
Go to the crawler machine that you're using for fingerprinting tasks.

Access the system's ODBC Data Source Administrator. In Windows 2008, navigate to C:\Windows\SysWOW64\ and run the executable file, odbcad32.exe

Click the User DSN tab and click Add.
User DSNs are the most common type of DSN. They store information about how to connect to a specific data source. They may be used only by the current user on the current machine. To use a User DSN, you must be logged in as the TRITON AP-DATA Administrative User on the server running the relevant crawler.

From the Create New Data Source dialog box, select the driver for which you want to set up a DSN.

When prompted, enter a data source name and description. Depending on the driver you selected, you can enter more information. For Excel, select a workbook and enter the number of rows to scan. For Access, select the database and the page timeout.

Click Advanced or Options as needed to provide details on the database records you want to fingerprint, then click OK.
7.
If you selected a Sybase or DB2 driver in step #4:
a.
Stop all discovery tasks and fingerprinting jobs running on this machine.
b.
Open Windows Services Manager. In Windows 2008, select Start > Run and type services.msc.
c.
Restart the service "Forcepoint Data Task Scheduler." In the services window, right-click Forcepoint Data Task Scheduler and select Restart.
