v6: Why can't I log on to Websense Manager?

Article Number: 000004451

Products: Websense Enterprise
Versions: 6.1, 6.2, 6.3

Problem Description

My logon dialog box has changed, and I am no longer able to log on to Websense Manager.

Resolution

The Websense Manager Logon dialog box contains three fields: User Name, Password, and Domain. In order to log on successfully, you must select the correct domain for the user name and password that you have entered.

To log on as WebsenseAdministrator:

  1. Enter the user name WebsenseAdministrator. Note that the user name is case sensitive, and that there are no spaces in WebsenseAdministrator.
  2. Enter the WebsenseAdministrator password.
  3. Expand the Domain drop-down list, and then select the blank (null) entry.
  4. Click OK.

If you incorrectly type your user name or password, or if you have not selected the correct domain, you will receive an "Invalid user name or password" error. If this occurs, verify that you have selected the correct domain, and then enter your user name and password again. If you are still unable to log on, please contact Websense Support.

If you make multiple attempts to log on as a user who does not exist in the selected domain, you will be locked out of Websense Manager with one of the following errors:

  • You do not have permissions to access Websense Manager.
  • You have exceeded the maximum number of logon attempts. Contact your system administrator to obtain access.

If this occurs, please contact Websense Support for assistance in resetting the password.

If you previously had a standard edition of Websense software, the Delegated Administration and Reporting features described in Chapter 8 of the Websense Web Security Suite and Websense Enterprise Administrator's Guide have been enabled. When you log on to Websense Manager, a new Select Role dialog box appears after you enter your user name and password.

  1. Select the Super Administrator role.
  2. Click OK.
  3. Perform your administrative tasks.

Notes & Warnings

NOTE: After a 30 minute timeout period, you will be able to attempt to logon to the Websense Manager again.  Alternatively, you can login with alternate Super Administrator account to unlock the locked account.
