Problem Description

Before installing the TRITON Unified Security Center, or the version of Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Express packaged in the Websense Unified Installer, use the TRITON Console System Requirements Tool to make sure that the machine you plan to use meets key operating system, hardware, and software requirements.

This tool performs verification based on the best information available at release time. Because operating system and other third-party updates may occur at any time, check the online installation materials in the Websense Knowledge Base (http://support.websense.com) for the latest information.

Note that the tool depends on the operating system to report information about installed software. As a result, the tool cannot return full version details for Microsoft SQL Server instances installed on the machine.

Resolution

The TRITON Console System Requirements Tool is delivered as a single Windows executable (EXE) file, packaged in a ZIP file. Download the tool from the ZIP file attached to this article.

To use the tool:

1.  Extract the contents of the ZIP file to a temporary directory.

2.  Run the tool with administrator privileges. (On Windows 7 and Windows 2008 machines, right-click the file and select the "Run as administrator" option.)

3.  When the tool launches, select the TRITON Unified Security Center modules that you plan to install on this machine.

This step is necessary, because requirements are different based on which modules you plan to install.

4.  Indicate where you plan to run Microsoft SQL Server (on this machine, or elsewhere in your network).

If SQL Server will run on this machine, indicate whether you intend to use the bundled Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Express database engine.

5.  Click Next. Information about hardware requirements is displayed.

    - A green check icon indicates that the system meets the related requirement.

    - A yellow exclamation point icon indicates that best practices recommend a configuration change on the machine.

    - A red "X" icon indicates that the system does not meet the related requirement and it will stop the installation.

6.  Click Next. Information about operating system, software and system configuration requirements is displayed.

7.  Click Next. You are given the option to generate a report summarizing the information displayed by the tool. A CSV file is created in the directory where the tool resides.

Alternatively, you can click Back to see the hardware and software requirement information again.

8.  When you are finished reviewing the information in the tool, click Exit.
