When do I need to install or reinstall software hotfix patches for the version of Websense software that I have installed?
You should install or reinstall hotfix patches if:
- You have run a repair with the original Websense software installer. Any hotfix patches that you installed prior to running the repair are now deleted and need to be reinstalled.
Repairing your Websense installation with the original installer deletes any hotfix patches that you have installed. If the product files that have been repaired are shared with another product, then you will need to reinstall hotfix patches for the other product as well.
- You have added Websense components with the original Websense software installer. Any hotfix patches that you installed prior to adding Websense components are now deleted and need to be reinstalled.
Adding Websense components to your Websense installation with the original installer deletes any hotfix patches that you have installed. You need to reinstall those hotfix patches.
- The mywebsense page announces new patches for the version of Websense software currently installed on your site.
Use the steps that follow to verify that the version of Websense software you have installed matches your My Websense corporate profile to make sure that you are notified of relevant patches.
1. Check your Websense software version.
To check the version number, open Websense Manager and go to Help > About Websense. Once you have verified the Websense software version, go to the next step.
2. Make sure your organization's profile is correct.
a) Log on to mywebsense with your email address and password.
b) Review the information displayed in the dark blue Profile box in the top left portion of the My Websense page.
1. If your organization uses more than one Websense product, expand the Current Subscription list (under the Profile box) to see a complete list.
2. If the product that you are using does not appear in the list, contact your Websense sales representative or reseller for assistance.
3. If the version is correct, go to the next step.
3. Install relevant patches.
Warning: If you install incorrect versions of the hotfix patches—versions that do not match your installed Websense software—the product will fail and you will not be able to use it. At that point, you will need to uninstall and reinstall the Websense software application.
a) Under PATCHES, in the center portion of the My Websense page, click View Patches.
b) Review the ReadMe file included with each patch to determine whether or not you want to install that patch.
c) Download the relevant hotfix patches.
Note: Any hotfix patches that you previously downloaded will still be listed and checked off as having been previously downloaded. If you saved the hotfix patch in a directory on your machine, you may reinstall that hotfix patch. If you do not have the downloaded hotfix patch saved on your machine, you can download it again.
d) Install the patches.
