I would like to create a new Log Database in Websense Enterprise Reporter. How do I do this?
Websense Reporting Tools for versions 6.3 and 6.3.1 use a catalog database and database partitioning approach that eliminates the need to create a new Log Database periodically. Use the Database Administration tool to specify whether new partitions are created after the current partition reaches a specific size or after a certain time elapses. See the Reporting Administrator's Guide for instructions.
If the catalog database becomes corrupted and you must create a new one for v6.3, v6.3.1, or v6.3.2, see Manually create a new Catalog Database for v6.3.x for instructions.
For Websense Reporting Tools v6.2 and earlier, use the following procedure to create a new database. Refer to the v6.2 or earlier Websense Web Security Suite and Websense Enterprise Reporting Administrator's Guide for additional information.
To create a new database, complete the steps below:
- On the machine where Websense Enterprise Reporter services are installed, select Start > Programs > Websense > Utilities > Migrate Utility.
- When the Migrate Utility dialog box opens, click the Create New Database button.
- When the Create a New Database dialog box opens:
-
Click OK (While the database is generating, this step may take a minute or more to complete).
-
When successful, you will see a dialog box stating: The database has been successfully created. Use the Log Server Configuration utility to make this database your new default database.
-
Click OK in the completion message box.
-
Close the Migrate utility.
You now need to identify the new database as the target for logging.
Change the Target Database
Once the new database is created, use the Log Server Configuration Utility to update the target database. To change the target database, complete the steps below:
-
Go to the machine where the Log Server is installed and select Start > Programs > Websense > Utilities > LogServer Setup. The Log Server Configuration window opens.
-
Select the Connection tab.
-
Click Stop to halt the Log Server Service.
-
Select the Database tab.
-
Click the Connection button.
-
When the Data Source dialog box opens, select the Machine Data Source tab.
- The name of your new database should be listed.
-
Double-click on the new database name.
- The SQL Server Login box appears.
-
Enter a Login ID and Password valid for your SQL server.
- If you are unsure of the correct credentials, contact your SQL database administrator.
|
NOTE
|
Use the sa account, not the Use Trusted Connection option.
|
-
Click OK.
-
When the Log Server Configuration Utility becomes active again, verify that your new database name is listed as the DSN Name entry in the Log Database Configuration section.
-
Click Apply.
-
Select the Connection tab.
-
Click the Start button to restart the Log Server Service.
Point Websense Reporter to the new Database
Once the new database has been created, Websense Reporter needs to be pointed to the new database.
-
Open Websense Reporter and select Start > Programs > Websense > Websense Reporter.
-
From the Reporter menu, select Tools > Options.
- The Select Data Source window opens.
-
Select the Machine Data Source tab.
- The name of your new database should be listed.
-
Double-click the new database name.
- The SQL Server Login box appears.
-
Enter a Login ID and Password valid for your SQL server.
- If you are unsure of the correct credentials, contact your SQL database administrator.
|
NOTE
|
Use the sa account, not the Use Trusted Connection option.
|
-
Click OK.
At the bottom edge of the Reporter window, a status entry shows the currently connected database. Your new database should be displayed. Now that Websense Reporter is connected to your new database, you may generate reports on your users' current internet activity. If you require reports from the previous database, simply repeat the prior steps to select the desired database.
