PHISHING

DEFINITION

Phishing is the act of attempting to bait a computer user into providing confidential information by directing the user to visit a counterfeit website where the user is asked to enter or update personal information such as passwords and account numbers for fraudulent purposes. Sometimes the user is referred to the site by an official-looking email that falsely claims to be an established legitimate enterprise.
