HIPAA SECURITY

DEFINITION

HIPAA security is a list of federal rules derived from the HIPAA Act of 1996 that identifies a series of organizational, technical, and physical protections to provide HIPAA security. These rules include documentation requirements for healthcare professionals to assure the accessibility, integrity, and privacy of electronically protected health information. To ensure HIPAA security compliance, organizations must ensure that only authorized personnel can access sensitive information.
