SurfControl Updates Improved: Read this if your SurfControl Product is not updating
In an effort to improve delivery of product updates to customers around the world, Websense has made changes in its Database Delivery System (DDS) infrastructure for former SurfControl products. SurfControl products are set to regularly check for updates at the following URLs:
- liveupdate.surfcontrol.com
- listsrv.surfcontrol.com
- st4update.surfcontrol.com
If your SurfControl product is still downloading updates from these servers, then you will need to update your system. It’s critical to correct this issue, as the server that your machine is accessing is not fault-tolerant, exposing you to the risk of failed updates. To correct these issues please click on the follow knowledge base article http://kb.websense.com/article.aspx?article=3330&p=12.
Websense will retire the legacy DDS infrastructure completely at the end of May 2008. We kindly request you address the configuration for your system using knowledge base article #3330. This will ensure the seamless continuation of product updates through our transition to the new DDS system.
If you require additional assistance, please contact us at SupportPortal.

ALERT: SurfControl Email Filter and Websense Email Security Customers
SurfControl Email Filter and Websense Email Security Customers
We’ve recently made a change in our network architecture. Instead of our update servers being hosted by a third party, they are now hosted internally by Websense’s Update Centers. If your DNS Cache is set to the third party address, you may have update issues with both SurfControl Email Filter and Websense Email Security.
To confirm whether you are having this issue:
If you are running SurfControl Email Filter 6.0 or earlier:
Launch your scheduler by going to Start | Programs | SurfControl Email Filter | Scheduler.
Click the view log button within the scheduler.
Confirm you see the following error "SurfControl Registration: 404: Not Found"
If you are running SurfControl Email Filter 6.1:
Launch your scheduler by going to Start | Programs | Websense Email Security | Scheduler.
Click the view log button within the scheduler.
Confirm you see the following error "SurfControl Registration: 404: Not Found"
As we have already made back-end changes to simplify the resolution for our customers, simply:
Go to Start | Run and enter cmd
At the DOS command prompt enter ipconfig /flushdns
Launch your scheduler
Run any content update
If you are still having any issues or you find any errors after completing the above steps please contact support.
