Depending on your current version, the order of operating system migration and Websense software upgrade steps varies:

1.
Migrate to Windows 2008.
2.
Upgrade to v7.7.x.
3.
Migrate to Windows 2008 R2.
4.
Upgrade to v7.8.x on the new platform.
5.
Upgrade to v8.1.x.

Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4
1.
Migrate to Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.
2.
Upgrade to v7.7.x on the new platform.
3.
Migrate to Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.
4.
Upgrade to v7.8.x on the new platform.
5.
Upgrade to v8.1.x.

Windows 2003
1.
Migrate to Windows 2008 R2.
2.
Do one of the following:
If you have Web Security or Web Filter, upgrade to v7.8.x.
If you have Web Security Gateway or Gateway Anywhere, upgrade to v7.7.x, then to v8.0.x.

Upgrade to v8.1.x.
