General tab

 

Field	Description
Type	The type of module.
Enabled	Select this box to enable the module for use in your environment. Deselect it to disable it.
Name	The name of the module.
Description	Enter a description of the module.
Ports	Enter the ports to monitor, separated with commas. Example: 1333,1334
Intelligent protocol discovery	Select this check box if you want Data Security to match data from unknown ports to this SMTP service. If enabled, the protector tries to parse the transaction regardless of the port number. (Note that this has an effect on protector performance.)
Mode	If the protector is operating in inline mode, select which of the following modes to use: Monitoring bridge - In monitoring bridge mode, Websense Data Security monitors and analyzes a copy of the traffic but does not enable policies to block transactions. Mail Transfer Agent - Select this option to set the protector to MTA mode. You must configure your mail servers and clients to forward mail to the protector. Note that when functioning as an MTA, it is important to ensure you limit the networks monitored by the protector in order to prevent the protector from becoming an open relay. If the protector is operating in SPAN mode, select which of the following modes to use: Monitoring passive - In monitoring passive mode, Websense Data Security monitors and analyzes a copy of all traffic but does not enable policies to block transactions. Mail Transfer Agent - Select this option to set the protector to MTA mode. You must configure your mail servers and clients to forward mail tot the protector. Note that when functioning as an MTA, it is important to ensure you limit the networks monitored by the protector in order to prevent the protector from becoming an open relay.

If you are using MTA mode, be sure to set the Mode to MTA.

If you are using monitoring bridge mode, set the Mode to Monitoring Bridge.
