How do I stop and start Websense services?

If Filtering Service is in the process of downloading the Master Database, it does not stop running until the download is complete. Use the Server > Database Download command to see if the Master Database is downloading.

Problem Description:

I am configuring or troubleshooting Websense Express, and I need to stop or start a Websense service. How do I do this?

Resolution:

Use the Windows Services dialog box to stop or start Websense services:

  1. Open the Windows Control Panel and go to Administrative Tools > Services. The Services dialog box appears.
  2. Scroll down to locate the Websense services.
  3. Select a service and click Stop or Start. If you are stopping multiple services, do so in the order shown here. Policy Server should always be stopped last / started first.
    • Other Websense services
    • Network Agent
    • Filtering Service
    • User Service
    • Policy Server
    If you are starting multiple Websense services, start them in reverse order, beginning with Policy Server.
