Problem Description:

When Websense software is integrated with Microsoft Proxy Server, incorrect authentication settings can prevent the Websense Master Database from being downloaded.

Resolution:

If Websense software is installed behind a Microsoft Proxy Server, and the proxy server is set up to require authentication, you must enable Basic Authentication on the proxy server to download the Websense Master Database.

Microsoft Proxy Server offers the following authentication methods:

  • IIS 4.0
    • Anonymous
    • Basic
    • Windows NT® Challenge/Response
  • IIS 5.0
    • Anonymous
    • Basic
    • Integrated Windows Authentication

By default, Microsoft Proxy Server has both Basic and either Windows NT Challenge/Response or Integrated Windows Authentication enabled. See your Microsoft Proxy Server documentation for information about enabling authentication within Microsoft Proxy Server.
