Problem Description:

No pop-up window was displayed on a Macintosh client indicating that a protocol was blocked.  Windows machines in the same installation get the pop-up window.

The connection  to the requested site fails and an error message is displayed similar to the one shown below.

Either Mac OS X 10.4 in Classic or native mode, or Mac OS 9.1 is running. Websense Enterprise is installed either with an integration, or as the Stand-Alone edition. The Network Agent is installed to block protocols.

Error Messages: (Detailed)

A connection failure has occurred.

Resolution:

Windows clients receive a protocol block message (pop-up) by means of the netsend functionality built into Windows. The pop-up is displayed on the end-user workstation by the local Windows Messenger Service.

Although Samba enables communication between Windows and Mac boxes, and actually allows the netsend message to be received by the Mac client, there is no equivalent to the Windows Messenger Service on the Mac side. Therefore Mac clients cannot display any protocol block messages.
